You will be met by your Driver Guide at the door outside your apartment or B&B building at the precise time of your scheduled pick up.
In some cases accommodations are in areas of Rome where it is legally forbidden for us to park our vehicles or leave them unattended. In such cases your Driver Guide will park the vehicle as close as possible, meet you at your entrance door, and escort you to the nearby vehicle.

How should we dress for our tour, and what do we need to bring with us?
Comfortable shoes and clothing are highly recommended. Many of the streets in Italy are made of cobblestone, which makes it rather dangerous to walk on with high heel shoes, strappy sandals, or flip flops.
Summers are hot and sunny, therefore sunscreen, sunglasses, summer hats or umbrellas are recommended.
Be sure to bring important personal items such as your wallet with enough money to cover your day’s expenses (and some extra for unforeseen expenses, such as shopping) and a government issued ID. It is not necessary to bring your passport if you worry about losing or damaging it. Valuable personal artifacts such as expensive jewelry, large sums of money in excess of what you are anticipating to need on your tour, should be kept in a safe place inside your hotel or place of accommodation.

Why should we book a private guide for Vatican Museum or the Coliseum if our driver guide is so knowledgeable?
According to Italy’s stringent laws and regulations intended to protect official licensed guides, it is unlawful for Tour Driver Guides to offer narration about sites after exiting the vehicle. Your Tour Driver Guide will provide narration and information only inside the vehicle.
In order to comply with Italy’s laws, Tour Driver Guides cannot accompany our guests inside monuments, museums, or piazzas or provide tour services reserved for licensed tour guides.
In Italy licensed tour guides must successfully pass rigorous examinations, therefore they are extremely knowledgeable about history, art, culture, architecture and archaeology.
Driver Guides possess general information, but not as extensive as a licenced tour guide.

Are the tour guides whose services you use licensed, local and fluent in English?
We only use the services of experienced, reliable, local professionally licensed tour guides who also speak fluent English.

Why is it recommended we book a private licensed tour guide for the Vatican Museums?
Private licensed tour guides are recommended for Vatican Museums visits during Day Tours in order for guests to get the most out of the limited time inside the museums.
The labyrinthine system of halls and galleries that make up the Vatican Museums make it difficult to know where the most important pieces of art are if you are not well familiarized with the museums and the locations of the art. Your guide knows precisely where to escort you so you have the opportunity to see the best the museum has to offer, provide informative commentary about what you are seeing, history, culture, art, and is open to any questions you may have so you have a better understanding of the masterpieces showcased inside the museums.
In addition, easy access to St Peter’s Basilica through the Sistine Chapel is only made available to visitors accompanied by a licensed tour guide. General public, or unlicensed tour guides are not permitted entrance. This time saving shortcut will save you precious time so you have the opportunity to see more on your visit to Vatican City.
On Shore Excursions when time is of essence, your private tour guide will make certain you will experience the best the museums and basilica have to offer, and return you to your awating Driver Guide and vehicle on time.
It is very easy for novices to get lost inside the Vatican Museums and difficult to find the correct exit where your driver and vehicle are waiting for you. When this happens not only do you risk exiting late and arriving late to your ship, but you will miss out on seeing the Museums and the Basilica as intended.
For guests’ optimal experience inside Vatican City and peace of mind, it is highly recommended your visit is accompanied by a licensed private guide.

What is the payment policy for private licensed guides?
Payment is made directly to your guide at the end of the tour he or she provides for you. RomeCabs or your Driver Guide do not accept payments on behalf of your tour guide which operates independently from us.

Are Credit Cards and Travelers Cheques widely accepted in Italy?
Major retailers and chain stores in Rome, at shopping centers and outlet malls generally accept major credit cards (Visa or MasterCard). If you plan to use your credit card internationally, be sure to let your credit card company know in advance so your purchases abroad are not denied.
Smaller boutiques and shops, restaurants and cafes usually do not accept credit cards.
Travelers Cheques are also not widely accepted in Italy, therefore it is advisable to cash them in advance, or make use of ATM facilities to access necessary funds.

How close to the sites that we are visiting are you able to drop us off at?
Our professional license permits our vehicles to stop as close to historic sites as legally possible. In Rome for example, we can drop our guests off right next to the Coliseum and Roman Forum, we can drive right past the Spanish Steps and Trevi Fountain, and pick you our guests after their Vatican City tour conveniently next to St Peter’s Square.
When visiting many of Italy’s small medieval towns, we are permitted to drive our guests through most narrow streets to their destination inside the town.
We are also allowed by the port authority of Civitavecchia and Livorno to pick up and drop off our guests right by their ship.
In contrast, vans and buses with capacity to seat more than 9 passengers cannot drive close to historic centers or monuments like we can, pick up clients inside Civitavecchia or Livorno cruise ports, or drive through most medieval towns. This results in extra walking distance that can be exhausting for many of our guests, while extremely time consuming and taking precious time away from seeing the sites you came to visit.

Can we extend our tour if we are enjoying our day? And how much will it cost us?
We are always very happy to accommodate your requests, so if you’d like to extend your tour, just let your Driver Guide know.
Your Driver Guide will let you know when the tour officially ends and it is time to return to your hotel. Please know that your tour ends at the moment you are dropped off at your hotel, not when you depart for your hotel.
There is a 50 Euros per hour fee for each additional hour past the standard return time. For example, if your return time is 5 PM and you wish to extend your tour by 2 extra hours, you will return at 7 PM and there will be an additional 100 Euros added to the total amount of the tour.

Where do we meet our Driver at Civitavecchia port?
For either a Shore Excursion or Port Transfer, your driver will meet you on the pier next to your ship holding a sign with your last name.
Our professional license permits us full entrance inside Civitavecchia port, so you do not have to walk far to your vehicle. Taxis and Buses cannot enter this area, resulting in extended walking distance.

Where do we meet our Driver at the port of Livorno?
Your Driver Guide will meet you on the pier next to your ship holding a sign with your last name.
The port authority of Livorno does not permit entrance prior to 8 AM, accordingly, all pick ups must be scheduled at 8 AM or later.

Where do we meet our Driver at the Port of Naples?
The port of Naples requires cruise ship passengers walk to the taxi and car service waiting area, which is the only location vehicles are allowed to park and for drivers to meet their clients. You can spot your Driver Guide standing next to his or her vehicle, holding a sign bearing your last name.

How do you make sure we don’t miss our cruise ship while on a Shore Excursion?

We never guide our guests in areas that may possibly place them at risk of arriving late to their ship. Our vehicles are well kept and frequently maintained for optimal safety.
